Plywood is the only wood material we can deboss. On combined products, such as a wooden menu holder with a leather cover, the logo can be debossed on the leather part.

How each material wears

Material
Over time
Feel
Crazy Horse
Develops a deeper patina; light scratches buff out by hand
Durable but soft, softens with age
Italian Leather
Stays flat and square; resists dirt, liquids and scratches
Firm, substantial, keeps its stiffness
Recycled Bonded
Worn-in look from day one
Soft and supple, no break-in
Ashwood
Holds its shape; resists wear and impact
Warm, light for its size
Plywood
Resists warping and cracking; handles humidity better than solid wood
Noticeably lighter than ashwood
Walnut Veneer
Stays flat; won’t warp with changes in humidity
Smooth, lighter than solid hardwood
Stainless Steel
Color does not change; doesn’t chip or absorb moisture
Rigid, lighter in the hand
Brass
Darkens toward bronze with handling
Rigid, noticeably heavier
Acrylic
UV-stable, resists yellowing; far more impact-resistant than glass
Smooth, light, warmer than glass

Which material to choose

  • Vintage look that gets better with use: Crazy Horse leather, or brass.
  • Clean, consistent look across every piece: Italian leather, or stainless steel.
  • Volume orders on a fixed budget: Recycled Bonded (our most affordable leather) or Plywood (lighter and less expensive than ashwood).
  • Sustainability: Recycled Bonded. It is GRS-certified and made with less water and fewer chemicals.
  • Natural solid wood with visible grain: Ashwood.
  • The look of walnut at a lower cost: Walnut Veneer. It’s genuine walnut veneer, unlike our Ashwood Walnut finish, which is stained ashwood. Available on selected products only.
  • Debossed logo on wood: Plywood only.
  • Humid environments: Plywood, Walnut Veneer, Metal or Acrylic.
  • Long-term pieces rather than seasonal menus: Metal.
  • Tabletop and buffet service where glass would be a risk: Acrylic.
